As the number of automobiles continues to expand globally, the growth of the auto parts industry has also been exponential. Auto parts can be broadly divided into two categories--original and duplicate. One should usually use original auto parts, as they are more reliable, durable and safe. Unbranded, locally manufactured or duplicate auto parts could prove to be a safety hazard. Most of the automobile companies provide the original parts for their products if they need to be replaced. Some auto parts are covered by warranties; some are not. There are showrooms, shops, online stores and your neighborhood mechanic--all of them are capable of providing various types of auto parts. There are certain auto parts which have a very short life; the others have comparatively long life. Certain auto parts are difficult to find, as they are used in those models whose production was discontinued by companies. Generally, even after discontinuing production of a particular model, the car manufacturers try to ensure that auto parts are available for them, at least for the next few years. The market for auto parts has been expanding at a very rapid pace. There are retail as well as wholesale markets for these parts in almost every big town or city. Many auto parts are available in gas stations, especially those along major highways. It is always better to get an auto part fitted by a qualified, well-trained and certified mechanic. Also, one must be careful about the "life" of an auto part. You must get certain crucial auto parts in your vehicle checked at regular intervals, even if they are not malfunctioning. Some auto parts should be kept as "spares" in your vehicle, especially if you are going for a long drive beyond the city limits. The new transportation bill is actually just one signature away and it is currently on top of the US president’s desk. If George Bush decides to make this bill into a law, the buying public would be able to know just how well, or how bad, vehicles have done in crash tests. This new bill is actually known and called as “Stars on Cars”. And yes, it costs $286.5 billion. The main thing that would make this bill become a big deal for most people would be that as part of this is the idea of requiring car dealers to put crash test ratings and scores on the vehicles’ windows. Just imagine going to a car dealer and you would actually be able to go through rows of vehicles on each window, you would actually see just how much protection and safety these vehicles could provide you in case of crashes. This bill is actually the brainchild of Mike DeWine of Ohio who is a Republican Senator. According to this senator, “Vital safety information needs to be accessible to the consumer when they need it most, at the dealership when purchasing decisions are made.” This is primarily because the public is able to know about the safety ratings only through some research that they would have to do through the Internet. Otherwise, the public would not know the ratings of the vehicles when it comes to crash tests. Aside from putting crash test ratings on vehicles’ windows, other provisions on vehicle safety include new rules on roof strength. There also is a provision on the replacement of outdated standards for some come even as early as the 1970s. There would be new studies done on rollovers so as to be able to release results come 2009 on how to reduce rollover fatalities. Only a few car parts manufacturers can actually match the quality of stock that vehicle manufacturers, like Ford, has so as to maintain safety as well as keep a vehicle’s performance excellent. Likewise, Ford Parts Discount prides itself with its collection of specially crafted parts like Ford Escort parts, Escape parts and Ford Cougar parts among many other Ford parts. -------- Jay Stevens works as a consultant for an established auto parts store in the country.
